1) They are being affected through their sevier droughts and their widespread poverty. They are also landlocked, need external assitance, and depend heavily on natural resources for subsistance.
ReplyDelete2) They are spending "their last penny to avert the threat posed by desertification". They could "import lakes" as I like to call it. This would be where they transport water to create lakes, and then the people could live by these new lakes. Or they could move to a natural water source in the deserts.
3) I think that we should all cut down the costs for EVERYTHING (so that the people who say things are too expensive to do that) so that we will have more money to go around. I think we should help with our resources by maybe building house-boats for the imagrants to live on so that we could have more room for the people from Africa and all the people in poverty to move over here, or we could ship the house-boats to there.

1. Both countries have been affected by not having enough money to stop desertification, and is putting pressure on urban areas. Desertification is suffering low crop and livestock and people becoming more into poverty. More people are making more time to extract fuel wood, make charcoal, harvest building materials, medical plants, bush and honey meat. There is also less fertile soil, it was estimated that it went down by 2.9% per year.
ReplyDelete2. In Copenhagen, they tried to do a climate change summit, which failed. They increased their levels of CO2. Some crops have even become more toxic and produce samller yields. People are studying the effect of rising CO2 levels on the plant nutritional quality and yield. Both species belong to a special group that produces a certain chemical.

I think the entire globe should share the responsibility, because the people in those places that have desertification want help, and if you put your feet in their shoes, you would want people to help you, too. We should all share resources, God wants the world to help one another and share with eachother and help eachother.

1 Ghana and Nigeria are being affected by desertification because of drought, drylands, and poverty. Plus, because of drylands and drought, people are moving to more rural areas and because of this, the poverty level is greater. The evidence is in the fast drying rivers that support farming.
ReplyDelete2 Both countries are working to emphasize environmentally sound developing plans. These plans are helping people in local villages to plant trees that will give the villages and rural areas firewood, plus, workers will be paid to cut the trees helping with the poverty.
3 I think that the entire globe should be working together to fight against desertification. I also think that all of the nations should use their resources to help other countries. This is because all people are equal and should have the chance to live in a house, have plenty of food and water, and just be able to live free of diseases that are treatable and preventable.

In Ghana deserts cover 1/3 over the land, it is causing a drought in the country. In Nigeria there is carbon dixoide transmitted in the air caused by humans. It is affecting many people because of the air quality.

I think the individual country should only care for there desertification because they are the ones who caused it they should fix it. Also if others countries help out another country the country that is helping could create a desertification without knowing. I think other countries should not use their resources to help another country because they need to keep there own government running and not to help the in need country. Many countries have other issues to take care of insted of helping another country

1) Deseertification to me is a good thing because I go to the desert all the time and I enjoy it..... If there's sand dunes, I'm all for it. There is no evidence to prove desertification because it is all based on false evidence given by people like Al Gore.

3) There should be no combat on desertification by anyone. The US shouldn't use their resources to fight desertification because it is probably just another false thing like global warming was. It's all a lie to get money.
I've got to go to the desert now so I can't type anymore. Just would like to say that closing down desert is a very bad thing to me. In the desert where I go there are tons of things like crashed military planes and an old water fountain that I would love to see, but environmentalists have shut down part of the desert, which means I won't get a chance to see these things. I don't see why it's shut down though because they proved that the plants and wildlife were doing better in the areas where the people ride. It's just silly.

1.There are many affects of desertification in Ghana and Nigeria. Some of these affects are a lack of crops due to the heat and lack of fertile farm land. These countries are struggling with heat lack of water, food, and in Nigeria there is a lot of carbon dioxide in the air. How very sad. The evidence we have to prove this is that many scientists and researchers have traveled to these places and recorded data about the about the environment and the air. They have shared this information with many people today.
ReplyDelete2. Each country is trying to combat desertification in many ways. Many people are creating organizations and groups to bring needed supplies to people in Ghana and Nigeria. The people are not only bringing love to these countries, but they are bringing seedlings to create alternate sources of firewood. This allows people to have more fuel, even when there aren’t very many forests around. Scientists are also working hard to learn more about the environment and ways they can help. In Nigeria, a new plant was discovered that actually reduces the high amount of carbon dioxide in the air. As you can see people are doing much to help!
3. I do believe that we should try to help the people struggling with desertification in other parts of the world. I think it could be great if we could help in the organization of having a water tower be built in parts of the dry areas. We could create organizations to send food and water to these places, which I know we are doing right now! This would help many people! :)

1. Ghana is being affected from desertification because their crops are being depleted and the water levels of rivers are going down a lot each year. They are also having a lot more dry spells than in previous years. The people are also devoting more time to grow fuel wood, make charcoal and harvest building materials, medicinal plants, and bush meat. Nigeria is being affected by desertification because the CO2 emissions in the air are very high and the cassava plant doesn’t grow well in this kind of climate. The people of Nigeria are very dependant on this plant because its stem is used to make flower and its leaves are eatable. But, the plant does contain cyanogenic glycosides which can get you cyanogenic glycoside poisoning. This plant is so useful because of its strength and hardiness.
ReplyDelete2. Each country is taking on desertification by using science as an ally. The countries are both using science to figure out better ways to attack their dilemma. Ghana is using science by using visual science. They are looking at there material and predicting what will happen in the future. Then they are taking their evidence and backing it up with a theory. Nigeria is using science by testing the CO2 emissions in the air and using different levels of it to test how the plant does in the different levels of CO2.
3. I think that the fighting of the war against desertification is the war of the whole world and not just Africa because Africa is an extremely poor continent. If we left this to them they would not get it done with out millions of lives lost.

1.) Ghana and Nigeria are being affected by desertification because the weather is so hot that it causes many droughts that lead to poverty and scarce natural resources. Desertification in these two countries result in less crops, lower livestock productivity and less forest products, such as wood for building. Also, soil fertility is in severe decline, which shows increasing danger to agriculture in Ghana and Nigeria.

1 Ghanna is being affected by desertification by having 6.09% of their crops have decrease. Another fact is that 35% of the land is about to become desert. For Nigeria, sand dunes are becoming more popular because they are now in the begining of desertification.

3 I think the combat against desertification has to be global because it's to much for just one country to do alone. I think other nations giving ideas on how to stop this would be helpful because the brains you have, the more ideas you get, and the faster we can prevent this situation.

1. Desertification is causing both countries to lose forests. It is drying up the rivers that feed these forests and the country's water reserves. A dam in Ghana is lower than it has been and many rural areas are losing the ability to grow enough crops for themselves.

3. Combating desertification is the responsibility of the whole globe. If one country tries to fight it and fails, it may continue on to other countries. The U.S. and others should help, but not to the point where they make themselves just as poor.
1: You can tell both countries are effected by desertification because they are both losing major forests and all there resources are being taken away. Some resources that are being taken away are the rivers for water and the water the crops which is making crops die and there is no food left for people or animals.

1. Even though Ghana is not landlocked, it is very much affected by desert as it is in Southern Africa and all the sand is being blown towards them. Niger is being affected, even though it is landlocked, because it is very poor and the desert is also spreading towards them, being in the south as well.

3. We should help other nations because even if we need to help them now, later on in the future, we might need their help.

1. Ghana and Nigeria have both been affected by desertification because there are less and less resources. Rivers are drying up, forests are being destroyed, there are less crops, and there is lower livestock productivity. In Nigeria, there is too much carbon dioxide emission, and the casava plant cannot grow in these conditions. They depend on the plant because it is edible and provides flour with its stem. In Ghana, more than two thirds of the land is desert, which leads to drought, dehydration, and poverty. Another major problem is that their crops are being depleted.
ReplyDelete2. Both countries are working to focus more on enviornmentally safe plans. They plan to have village people plant trees for firewood, and workers will be hired to cut the wood. Scientists are also working to learn about ways they can make changes that will benefit the enviornment. They are taking evidence and making a proposal based on it. Nigeria specifically is testing CO2 emissions in the air and seeing the difference between that and the CO2 that the plant takes in.
3. I think it should be everyone's job to prevent desertification. We need to remind ourselves of the Golden Rule: Treat others how you would want to be treated. If we had a desertification problem in the US, we would want others to help us, so why shouldn't we help them? I think if we or Europe or Asia have resources that we don't use but Africa needs, than we should of course give them. If we need them and only have a limited supply, though, we should keep what we need for ourselves and then help others.
