Google's decision to pull out of China has prompted mixed reactions from Chinese citizens and government officials.
Some people placed flowers on the Google sign at its Beijing headquarters in a sign of mourning, and sympathetic bloggers spoke up for the American company. The Chinese government asserted its right to maintain the Internet according to the country's legislation and rules.
Google, which is only the third biggest Internet company in China's massive market, has agreed to voluntary limits on content since 2006. That included blocking searches for anything related to the 1989 crackdown in Tiananmen Square, the exiled Dalai Lama, or the banned Falun Gong protest group. However, Google's stance changed in January after its e-mail service was targeted by hackers.

This has upset many in China, causing an uproar of chaos. Because Hong Kong has an uncensored search engine, this is the most logical place to put the base.

China has a corrupt Communist government, whereas the US runs as a democracy. In China, the most common religions are Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. These religions do not focus on one true God. In the US, the most common religions are Christianity, unaffiliated religions, and Judaism. These include the belief in one God, which is a belief in most American religions today.

4) By pulling out of China, Google showed that it not agree with the strict government blocking much of its information. Because of this, I think Google did the right thing. Besides this, only 10% of Chinese citizens cared whether Google stayed or not; apparently, it is the third most popular search engine/ internet source in China.
5) The kind of things that the government may feel should be censored are things that persuade people to see the bad things about the Chinese government(they do not want the people to think too much about this), or things that in their standards are unessacarily innapropriate(sexual videos, perhaps vulgar graphics?). They censor things because it keeps people from knowing about the outside(through Twitter or Facebook etc.) and makes their people clean minded.
6) Google chose Hong Kong as the new base for its servers because it was unhappy with China's overly strict internet security. Google is "still trying to give the Chinese users the most possible information uncensored." Unlike China, Hong Kong has a government that doesn't monitor the web browsing of the citizens.
7) Though this whole debate may seem like it is just about a web page switching a few things around, it is much more that that. It is a minimized version of the disagreements between the U.S. and China where we do not feel that the Chinese government is doing the right thing in blocking the internet use of its citizens. In the U.S. the main belief is FREEDOM. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of knowlege. Because we hold freedom as such an honorable things in our country, many things that China thinks, does, and prohibits are not to our liking.
